Sometimes, mechanical problems are far less frustrating to fix than electrical ones. For instance, when the electronic boot release stopped working on our Micra, we realised there was very little we could do. The rear seats can only be folded down by releasing them from inside the boot, so with the parcel shelf wedged firmly in position by the seats and tailgate, there appeared to be no way inside. And even if we had got inside, you need to undo a plastic panel that's held on with super-strong clips before you can hope to find the lock. Fortunately, the electronic boot release opened after several days of failed attempts. Had it not done so, we were considering attacking it with a hairdryer. Several posts on various forums had suggested that the boot release can become waterlogged, resulting in electrical failure of the switch. Many Micra K12 owners had fitted new release switches, only to find the problem recurred. A modified switch had been available from an aftermarket specialist at one time, but sadly not now. We decided to look into the problem, and as you will see from the step-by-step photographs, we're hoping that we've found a proper cure.
