We HPI'd a car just prior to taking it in part-exchange the other day. It showed up on finance, which was a surprise. Even more surprising - and like a scene from a James Bond film - no sooner had we clicked the 'Submit' button, the finance company in question were wanting to know the whereabouts of 'their' car. We'd never heard of the finance company in question, so we spoke to the owner of the car. They'd never heard of them either - they'd bought the car outright for cash. Except that the previous owner had been the registered keeper for just six days and the supplying 'dealer' was one of those overnight pop-up outfits that used to appear on bombsites but now frequent industrial estates.
