Half of themoney saved by the British Waterways economy drive will be lost in government cuts.rnIn what BW describes as the "unfortunate reality" of the country's poor financial situation bringing a tightening of belts, the 2010-2011 grant from Defra to support BW in England and Wales has been cut to £47.848m. Even after allowing for £5m of funding for engineering works brought forward from 2010-11 to this year as a one-off measure, that still leaves an effective reduction of £4.6m from the current £57.448m.
