Q My boat is out of the water for blacking: is there anything I need to do to lubricate the rudder bearings? I can't see how the skeg bearing is lubricated if at all. Is the skeg bearing just a non-ferrous cup the rudder sits in?rnA If you have a cup on the skeg I doubt it's non-ferrous. If it is steel just black the outside. If you want to work stern-gland grease into the cup it won't do much good, but you will feel better. If you ever get a squeak from the rudder, lifting it out of the cup and dropping a 2p piece or copper washer into the cup has been known to stop the squeak.
