I agree with much of what David says, although I have some concerns over insulating the floor as described, but much depends upon the space underneath; wood products need to be allowed to breathe, if they do not rot might set in.rnMany boats use stuck vinyl or lino as an initial floor covering so vapour cannot escape upwards (except into voids in the glue). Fitting anything with a vapour barrier close below the floor could cause condensation on the underside of the flooring and the inevitable rot. The accommodation bilge will eventually have water in it from leaking windows, pipe joints and condensation and I would want free airflow the full length of the bilge (forced if possible). This may, or may not be impossible to obtain with insulation a tight fit between ballast and floor.
