Yorkshire's calder & hebble Navigation is closed to through boating following the failure of Cooper Bridge Weir on January 23. This weir maintains the water level at Cooper Bridge Junction, where the Huddersfield Broad Canal meets the River Calder. This means that the collapse has effectively closed two of the three trans-Pennine routes - via the Rochdale and Huddersfield canals - to through-boating. With maintenance teams fully committed to the winter stoppage programme, finding resources to repair the weir could take time. BW Programme Manager David Crane added "the difficult location means we have to fully consider a variety of options for repair." BW could not say when the waterway would be likely to reopen.
