Hydraulic drive for a narrowboat

Would you recommend hydraulic drive for the propshaftrnand bowthrusters on a new 60ft narrowboat? There is a place for hydraulic drives if the engine has to be mounted transversely or in an unconventional place, but even modern piston pump/motor hydraulic drives are not as efficient as gearboxes so if you decide on one you will be paying a fuel consumption penalty.
