ALTERNATOR FUSE LINK

My motor cruiser has two 1993 Ford diesels with Lucas alternators. At one of them the only red cable is disconnected, because a 'fuse link' is broken. Is it possible to use the alternator without this part, and if not where can I get one?rnI have seen no fuses on alternator output since 1966. If the main charging lead is long, they may have been fitted at the battery end in case it developed a short circuit.rnFit a suitable terminal to the end of the lead and connect to the alternator. Ensure the master switches are never turned off with the engine running.rnJust before shutting down after a day's cruising I would expect the charging voltage to be 14.0V to 14.2v on a 1993 alternator, but if they have been changed it might be 14.4v or higher. You should have the same voltage at the alternator and battery. If not you have volt drop, possibly caused by a split charge device.
