Andy buchanan's reply to my reply to his original blast (CB, Feb plus March & May) seems equally to have missed my point that a little common sense might be useful in the matter of single narrowboats using broad locks.rnI recently had the pleasure (?) of working up Buckby Locks, with two craft sharing - and myself as the only lock-worker. Fortunately, I had a bike to assist in the processrnof triple-traversing some sections. Even so, it was a hard slog - and we were not in a hurry.rnIn all cases, careful lock working is essential. Merely having a 14ft-plus gap through which to steer a 7ft or 6ft 10in wide boat does not guarantee that the gates will not be scraped, bashed, or otherwise mistreated.
