When you set out for a spot of cruising you don't generally expect to find yourself involved in rescuing a horse. But it was all in a day's boating on the Staffs & Worcs for Lyn and Steve Smith and their friend Cliff Randall aboard their shared-ownership narrowboat Pendeford.rnThey arrived at just the right time to help the police and fire brigade from Penkridge rescue a horse thatrnhad fallen into the canal between Brick Kiln Lock and Boggs Lock. Steve, from Ringwood, Hampshire, said: "The plan was to use the boat as a makeshift bridge across the canal so that the police and fire crew could cross the canal and lead the horse across to its field on the other side.
