Go bats on your waterway

There is a particular focus on bats in the 2011 survey of the wildlife that lives on Britain's canal and river network. The annual British Waterways Wildlife Survey helps to map the creatures that live on and around the 'green corridors' of the network to help ecologists keep track of their ups and downs. The bat, of which there are 17 native species, has seen a dramatic decline since the 1950s due to the increasingly intensive use of land.
