Could the inland waterways be emerging from the doldrums of the last couple of years? If this year's Crick Show was anything to go by the signs are hopeful. Despite indifferent, windy weather and the traditional bank holiday Monday rain, far more people turned out on all three days than might have been expected after the last couple of years of malaise in the market. And the crowds were serious about being there. Rather than people simply enjoying a day out at a canal event, the stands were busy with buyers most of the time and, much to some people's surprise, boats were being bought on the day.
