Q We have a boat with a Beta 43 engine and on leaving Salters Lode on the Great Ouse we just managed to make the turn against a fast-running tide and a high wind. While we are fairly experienced, you can always learn so we asked the lock-keeper for feedback; he said we did fine but he would have used more power. The engine revs in neutral should be slightly over 3,000 and under load 2,800 where the maximum horsepower is achieved.
