After eight years of fundraising, Girlguiding Birmingham and Northamptonshire have celebrated the launch of a new narrowboat, Tuptonia. The Chief Guide, Gill Slocombe, launched the boat with champagne before organisers and girls were able to explore their new craft. The 69-footer was built by ABC Boatbuilding at Alvechurch and has 12 berths. She is thought to be the only Girlguiding canal boat in the country. She replaces a boat of the same name that had been used to take girls on canal trips and holidays since 1994.
