Winter mooring permits for the Canal & River Trust's waterways are now on sale - and there have been a number of changes since last year. These permits are aimed at those who cruise continuously for most of the year, but want to stop for longer between November and March. This year, the number of visitor mooring sites partially given over to such berths has been cut back; meanwhile, unlimited numbers of a new, cheaper 'general towpath' permit are now available (for continuous cruisers only) which give the right to tie up almost anywhere without the need to move on every 14 days, except at visitor moorings or within 1km of an offline marina or long-term mooring site.
