There are any number of books on ropes and knot-tying, but this one is different. Whereas many of them describe all manner of weird and wonderful knots from the world of sailing ships (and explain everything from how to hang a ship's bell to how to hang a murderer) Knots for the Cut is the only book we know of that concentrates exclusively on ropework for inland waterways use - and I it's just been reprinted after five years. Author Ben Selfe, a fender-maker, raconteur and liveaboard boater for many years, explains with the aid of clear drawings everything you need to know to tie up your boat, splice ropes, make fenders, produce useful and decorative Turk's Head and Ocean Plait mats, make a ladder, and create the traditional working boats' decorative ropework. It's an excellent reference book by somebody who really 'knows the ropes'.
