I do NOT always agree with Steve Haywood but his article (CB, Apr) on the subject of the Canal & River Trust appeal was spot on. Over a 25-year period before I retired, I was a chief executive of two national charities and the President of a European-wide charity, and what I, and others like me, understood was that any financial appeal had to have five elements.
