After the rain comes the clean-up - and for the Canal & River Trust, it's a £2m operation including some serious engineering work. But, as we went to press, it looked hopeful that the entire system would be open by Easter, with the exception of the biggest single problem on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal at Llanfoist. Canal Boat spoke to CRT's Operations Director Vince Moran who reported that the work at Llanfoist is "progressing quite well" -but there's a lot to do. The rain-sodden embankment started to slide down the steep hillside that the canal runs along, opening up a large crack along the canalside. The response has been to 'nail' the embankment back to the underlying bedrock with 10-metre and 20-metre long 'pins'.
