CRT promises more cash and better communication

More money for winter maintenance work, a concerted effort to tackle offside vegetation and a raft of measures aimed at better communication with boaters have all been announced by the Canal & River Trust's new Chief Executive Richard Parry as he completes his first four months in the top job. An extra £2m is available for work including culverts, cuttings, banks and dredging thanks to a lack of any serious emergency calls on the annual contingency fund this year. A further £2m from better-than-expected financial results is to be spent on clearing trees from the non-towpath side on 200km of waterways.
