Everyone likes a bargain - especially when it comes to buying boats, and sometimes the best place to get one is at auction. While they don't come up very often, the demise of hire company and boatyard Guildford Boat House on the River Wey (which means there is now only one hire fleet there, Farncombe Boat House) provided such an opportunity. Several of their boats were to be sold via an online auction by Marriott & Co, a company dealing largely with machinery sales and not used to selling boats (although they took advice on value from ABC Boats). As a rather different way of acquiring a secondhand craft, Canal Boat decided to follow the auction to see how it went.
