Last year, at times, my boat looked rather like a floating allotment. We were away for several months and I wanted to try growing as much as possible. I grew runner beans, tomatoes, chillies, herbs galore and even a reasonably decent courgette plant. When the plants grew too tall, a fact borne out when passing under a bridge at Stratford on Avon, the plants had to be and garden centres and supermarkets will be full of variety just now. Do remember these are fast- growing and hungry plants so pot them up into good quality multipurpose compost preferably with a handful of water retaining crystals such as Nutrigel from Gardman. This helps both with watering and gives an extra boost of fertiliser for the best possible blooms.
