Going on the Derbyshire trail

Trailboats will be converging on the new Staveley Town Basin in May 2016 for the Inland Waterways Association's National Trailboat Festival, which is to return to the Chesterfield Canal for the first time since 2005. The event, scheduled for the late Spring Bank Holiday weekend on 28-30 May, will include a convoy cruise along the full length of the restored section of canal from Staveley to St Helena's, Chesterfield; an illuminated boat parade; plus public boat rides, stalls, a real ale bar and entertainments. It will also have a serious campaign purpose: encouraging support for restoration of the 'missing link' unnavigable length from Staveley to Norwood - in the face of the threat from the HS2 railway.
