He is pictured on board Roach, owned by John and Jenny Jackson (see our 20 Questions feature in the January issue) on a regular trip from their Awbridge base up the Staffs & Worcs to Autherley and then the Shroppie to Brewood. According to John's blog, he got the hang of steering straight away, listened as they bent his ear with personal bugbears such as overhanging vegetation and dredging (they went hard aground in a narrows once), and "never once asked about the rate of pay".
