Back in May 2019's issue, I wrote about my homemade string rug. It was a thing of beauty, much admired and served its immensely practical purpose admirably. However, it has been looking somewhat worse for wear lately. It had been washed carefully a while ago but I was not convinced that it would withstand another washing as 'bits' had been falling off it in increasing amounts. Time for a new rug, I thought.I was sorely tempted to replace like for like and create another string rug, perhaps this time stitching rather than glueing it together. However, I decided to have a go at rag rugging instead. Many years ago, I bought a rag rugging kit from Audlem Mill when we were passing on the Shroppie. Great, I thought. I'll dig that out, I thought. I turned the house upside down looking for that kit and could not find it anywhere. I am convinced that my house contains a black hole into which Things Of Great Value That I Have Not Yet Used get sucked into.
