Well. I think it would be fair to say that 2020 has been a memorable year though perhaps not for all the right reasons! One of the better things to occur, other than fanatical bread making, was a keen interest in gardening. I can't help feeling that our enforced slowdown simply gave people the time to value a pace of life that most of us rarely enjoy. Gardening, by its very nature, is a slow process though full of anticipation and excitement at the same time. However small or large one's growing projects may be, a modicum of optimism is required and I have found that gardeners tend to be full of that! After all there is always something to look forward to, whether it is watching a developing seedling grow on to flower or a ripening tomato ready to pick. There is no hurrying the process; just like boating time and patience is required. January is not much of a month for gardening but there are still jobs to do and projects that can be started. Keep an eye on pots of bulbs, they need a little water but should not be waterlogged, some shoots may be showing already which is always exciting. If you are on a permanent mooring beware of hungry squirrels. Cheek over all planted containers and remove rotting leaves.
