A three-way bridge for MK

Following on from our aerial picture last month of the new Campbell Park Marina in Milton Keynes taking shape, a remarkable new three-legged footbridge has now been craned into place at the marina entrance. The steel bridge, with a span of 31 metres, bridges both the entrance to the marina and the main line of the Grand Union Canal. Its designers COWI/Knight Architects say that it "provides two connections within one structure while avoiding any abrupt changes in direction that would be difficult for cyclists and wheelchair users to navigate". It was fabricated in sections off-site, assembled at the marina, and lifted into place in a single piece by marina builder Land & Water using a 750-tonne crane.
