WATER BORN

摘要

It is a sobering thought that the waterways photographs I took in the 1950s are now historic archive material. And the fact that my boating recollections go back to the 1940s means that I could myself probably be classified as an historical waterways artefact. I was born in Bonsor Road, Strawberry Hill, scarcely 100 yards from the tidal Thames upstream of Twickenham. My first recollections are of boats and flooding; and of the smells of the muddy-banked tideway and of my father's fishing gear for which I soon developed a deep-seated dislike. Catching fish with a rod and line, I decided long ago, was not a very sporting pastime.
