The New Dawn Project

The trading narrow boats of the Chesterfield Canal represented a remarkable survival of a 200-year-old design of horse-drawn wooden boats, unaffected by most of the changes that had influenced boat-building elsewhere. Sadly despite this long survival, not a single example lasted long enough to be preserved. However the New Dawn Project plans to fill this gap in our waterways heritage by re-creating a unique type of working boat - the 'cuckoo'.
