Well, it has taken 45 years to get to this point. Two boat fit-outs and a radical lifestyle change later we were ready to live a dream. A dream that four years ago seemed most unlikely until my wife arrived home with a certain boating magazine and a seed was sown. We left Whixall under the watchful eyes of a bunch of experts in a blaze of indifference. Thankfully we managed to avoid hitting anything until the first lift bridge by which time we were well out of sight. That was the first of many 'coming-togethers' with chunks of 200-year-old steel and stone and two days out, it already looked like we had shed a layer of skin. 'We' being my wife (and skipper) Janna, dog Bonny and me Jo (female spelling but sporadic facial hair).
