Paul McCartney might well have had the South Oxford Canal in mind when he wrote "The Long and Winding Road". Last month we reported how the North Oxford was straightened to improve the flow of traffic but no such radical changes were made to its southern neighbour and the 48 miles from Napton Junction to Oxford continued to twist and wind on its languorous course to the River Thames.
