摘要

No longer are community news-papers the poor cousins of the print media world, in fact maybe they never really were. A recent study by the Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) shows more people are reg-ularly reading community papers than read the large urban dailies, and this is fueling attraction from new advertisers and stimulating more activity among newspaper owners as the industry consolidates and production demands increase. The landscape of community paper ownership in Canada has been undergoing change. Within the past few months, Transcontinental Inc. (already the publisher of over 100 community titles) acquired OptiPress in Atlantic Canada, adding 25 weekly and biweekly papers. Metroland Printing, Publishing and Distribution (a division of Torstar) has just launched a new full-colour weekly paper in Ontario's Niagara Region, adding to its line-up of over 60 community newspapers in Southern Ontario.
