Anishinabe Printing boasts a rare distinction among printing companies in Canada, or even around the world. Located in a residential neighbourhood on the reservation of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg Algonquin First Nation in Quebec, the company is one of very few small Canadian printers to have achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Typically this voluntary environmental designation is sought only by the printing industry's largest companies and displayed as a badge of honour. For Anishinabe, it was a matter of principle. "Before asking an FSC auditor to come here, I explained that we were not the big boys they normally deal with, but that as native people we wanted to take a strong stand in support of forest management," says company co-owner Wayne Odjick.
