A cascade coding technique for compressing broadband residue sequences

Despite rapid progress in improving mass-storage density and digital communication system performance, compression of data is still an important consideration in overcoming data-storage and transmission-bandwidth limitations in research and engineering applications. In this paper a novel, simple and effective approach for lossless compression of broadband residue sequences is presented. This coding scheme an achieve an efficiency of 95/100. A decomposition algorithm for finding the optimal coding parameters is described. The algorithm decomposes a multi-variable optimization problem into a series of single-variable optimizations. Because of the simplicity of the conding scheme the data compression algorithms can be implemented using low-level assembly language to meet the requirements of real-time applications.
