The impetus for a book on structural analysis was basednon the author’s personal interest and from the first conferencenon “The History of the Theory of Structures” held innMadrid in 2005. This book is the second updated and expandednedition that has been translated into English from thenoriginal German. As with any encyclopedia, the author enlistednother contributors and friends who provided somentexts and illustrations. Additionally, there are 175 minibiographiesnof prominent figures in structural mechanics asnwell as an extensive 52 page bibliography containing significantnresearch references. Two detailed indices containingnnames and subject matter are very helpful. Almost everynpage contains a diagram, a table, a photograph or an equationnthat illustrates an event in the development of the subjectnat a point in time.
