Portable power connectors meet design requirements

Portable power applications require connector solutions that meet various power parameters, ensure operator safety, conform to industry standards and meet the size constraints of portable equipment. Power distribution boxes, mobile generators, welding equipment, theater and outdoor events, theme park rides, alternative energy installations and dockside/riverside power plants, are just a few of the applications in which these design parameters must be considered. In the case of interconnects, materials play a critical role in determining the connectors' amperage capabilities, while finger protection, coupling and UL approvals are just several of the design considerations necessary to provide operator safety. Historically, connector manufacturers have provided interconnect solutions that have been effective, but are costly to produce and bulky in size. Connector manufacturers face the challenge of designing a safe, lightweight, high power and cost effective connector with the ability to take the wear and tear, and environmental exposure, found in portable power systems and power distribution boxes.
