Lakehead University Women Steel a First

On June 21-24, 2002, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, hosted the eleventh U.S. National Student Steel Bridge Competition, which is sponsored jointly by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). This competition has established itself as the pre-eminent civil engineering student competition in the U.S. Since 1998, Lakehead University has been invited to compete in the Mid-West Regional Competition (one of the 20 regions from each of which the top two are selected to participate in the National Student Steel Bridge Competition). This year, 176 universities participated regionally and 44 were invited to the Nationals. In 1999, Lakehead University became the first Canadian team to qualify for the National Competition.
