Performance of the Canadian Construction Industry — A Benchmarking Pilot

In June 2005, the TD Bank reported that the poor performance of the Canadian construction industry was dragging down the productivity of the entire national economy. The TD Bank also reported that the labour productivity of the Canadian construction industry had declined by close to 8 per cent since 2001. This was considered the main reason the productivity of the entire Canadian economy had only increased by 2.5 per cent, compared to an increase of 15.9 per cent in the U.S. over the same time.
