The Canadian Hydraulics Centre of the National Research Council Canada (NRC-CHC) is the largest Canadian coastal and hydraulic engineering laboratory. It is a business unit of NRC that provides physical and numerical modelling and analysis services to the engineering community in the general field of Hydraulics, Coastal Engineering, Environmental Hydraulics, and Cold Regions Technology. One of the fields for which this Centre is internationally recognized is ice engineering and this article will focus on the achievements of a group of Canadian Civil Engineers working on Cold Regions Problems. The Center's expertise and capabilities in modeling ice and solving ice engineering problems through the use of field studies, laboratory studies and numerical models are significant and have secured international reputation.
