How Automated Vehicles Will Impact Civil Engineering

Automated vehicles (AVs), also known as autonomous, self-driving or driverless cars, will be here much sooner than most people expect and will lead to major changes to the way that civil engineers design and construct infrastructure. They will result in the first paradigm shift in road transportation since the invention of the modern motor car. There is a strong argument that we should already be incorporating this change in the design of civil engineering projects.
