For more than a decade, Wang Xuebing shone as one of the brightest stars in Chinese finance. In 1993, he took over as head of the Bank of China, the country's second-largest, and two years ago began running another of the Big Four banks, China Construction Bank (CCB). He was part of an elite cadre of officials singled out by Premier Zhu Rongji to restructure China's tottering state-owned banks.
