TURKEY'S SECRETS TO SUCCESS

Turkey officially assumed its presidency of the G20 on Dec. 1, 2014, announcing an impressive "Three I's" agenda for the club of wealthy nations. Turkey has established these high-level priorities as the focus for the G20 in 2015-and in many ways, the nation is proving them to be the keys to its own success. The country has achieved its position as a leading emerging market by successfully pursuing the Three I's policy itself, and, in doing so, has attracted considerable interest from overseas investors. Its G20 Three I's agenda looks like this: Inclusiveness-making it a priority to foster and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and, therefore, entrepreneurialism. On the global stage, inclusiveness is about ensuring that the interests of low-income developing countries are taken into account by the richest countries that comprise the G20. Implementation-putting into practice the reforms that have been discussed and decided upon, but not yet acted upon. In particular, these include structural reforms in many countries where the political will to bring about uncomfortable changes may be weak. Investment-bringing private-sector investment to infrastructure projects, especially where public-sector funding is constrained.
