Public transport needs to reduce car use

I agree entirely with Martin Arthur (You Writi last month) about rail feeders. I live in on a village bus route in south Devon. Recently we asked for the bus to divert slightly to serve two fairly new supermarkets on the edge of Dartmouth, so that people from several villages could access them without a car. The answer sadly was negative, so passengers have to go where the bus operator states or use a car, instead of the bus going where the passengers wish it to go.
