I thought the centre of Birkenhead would be obvious even though I had not been on the Wirral peninsula for many moons. I dismissed the nondescript stop in Argyle Street as being that same centre and thus found myself swiftly re-ordering my day as my Arriva DAF dived into the Mersey Tunnel and hurtled with great expedition round its twists and turns toward the big city on the other side. Ah well, the frustrations of bus travel. At least I had planned to be in Liverpool during the day and just had to rejig the schedule. An extraordinary number of buses in Liverpool. Great long lines of them belting along on every street. Mostly Arriva and Stagecoach but a few smaller operators like HTL and municipal Halton as well as a few First services through the tunnels.
