摘要

Several rides on the same day on two London routes with hail-&-ride facilities showed enormous contrasts. Both run at 20min frequencies but that was as far as the similarities went.On the first route friendliness was uppermost. 'Hello Rose, how are you today?' asked one driver. Later the bus set down Rose exactly outside her destination. The second route is newer and uses larger buses but was impersonal in comparison. Drivers did not know where passengers wanted to alight, while passengers did not attempt to talk to drivers but just rang the bell and hoped the bus would stop near where they wanted.
