wrote my previous Service Extra around the time the Olympics began and I thought briefly that I could be very topical, except that you would not have read it until October Buses by which time its immediacy would have been a bit compromised. Worth recounting my experiences, though. I had planned a July trip by National Express coach from London to Norwich, the trunk service operated for many years by Chenerys. Only quite close to the day did I fully realise that I would be travelling across the Olympic torch on its penultimate day as well as through the heart of the Olympics at Stratford — and the coach and its driver would have to do both those things on their way in as well, plus perhaps negotiate other restrictions about which the press had been hyperventilating for days.
