Volvo is closing the hybrid double-deck gap

There could soon be as many Volvo B5LH hybrid double-deckers in service in London as Alexander Dennis's Enviro400H. By early November, 421 Volvos and 432 Enviro400Hs had been delivered or were on order, a 50.6% to 49.4% split in favour of Alexander Dennis. Abellio and Stagecoach have both favoured the Alexander Dennis product with BAE Systems HybriDrive series hybrid technology, although Stagecoach will have 54 B5LHs with Volvo's own parallel hybrid system also favoured by Metroline, Arriva and - for its first hybrid order -Tower Transit. Stagecoach and Go-Ahead expect 70 B5LHs with new generation Enviro400 bodies.
