Founded: Sheerness 1931 by Harry Eglinton, a London chauffeur and motor engineer, as a coach hirer. Traded as Island Luxury Coaches with 1 929 Gilford SD/Duple 26-seater UV 3727. Short-lived Sheerness-Stoke Newington (London) express service started April 1931. Relocated to Sittingbourne 1 932, acquired current depot 1 938. All seven coaches requisitioned in war; Eglinton maintained and drove civil defence ambulances. Bedford OB/Duple Vista KKN 752 bought new and operated 1 948-60. Taxi and chauffer driven car hire developed until early 1 990s, garage services continue at Chalkwell Road. Son Clive took over 1969 and purchased 12-seat Commer minibus 1974. Coach fleet grew and new depot at Murston opened 1988. First local bus service (Doddington-Faversham) started 1987; first regular local service contract for Kent County Council (364/367) won 1990, year the company was incorporated.
