The Unite union is stepping up its campaign to end separate drivers' pay agreements on Transport for London tendered services. A 24hr strike on 13 January took 66% of buses off the road, while a second on 5 February removed 55%. Epsom Coaches, Sullivan Buses, Arriva the Shires and Southern Counties ran normal services. Ensignbus provided extra peak period buses on routes 381 and single-deck 521 out of Waterloo on 5 February. Further strikes were called for 13 and 16 February, as the bus operators refuse to enter into collective talks to end what Unite says is the 'unfair' disparity of 80 different hourly pay rates of between £9.30 and £12.34. Unite regional officer Wayne King says: 'Bus passengers pay one fare, so why don't bus drivers get paid the same rate for doing the same job?'
