The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has commissioned a study on developing an integrated 'metro-style' public transport network for the Leeds city region, while Greater Manchester has unveiled an air pollution action plan that could renew the region's buses. Buses, trolleybuses, light and heavy rail and tram-trains are among the options the West Yorkshire authority will consider. It says an initial report from consultants WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff and Steer Davies Gleave will be ready in April. 'It has long been acknowledged that Leeds city region needs the kind of multi-modal transport system that you will find in most major European cities,' says Keith Wakefield, who chairs WYCA's transport committee.
