The Labour Party has pledged to provide new ring-fenced funding of £1.3billion a year to reverse cuts made to 3,000 bus routes in England since 2010. It says it would increase vehicle excise duty for cars and use the money to expand services and reinstate routes lost through local authority spending cuts over the past nine years. It says this would be in addition to its already announced plans for public ownership of bus operators, franchised networks and free fares for young people.
